The Weld County Road 47/SH-392 Intersection Improvements Project was part of the County’s future transportation enhancement program. Knowing that widening WCR 47 was in the near future, the County recognized that reconstructing the intersection in advance would significantly decrease the inconvenience to the travelling public during construction of the future larger project.
The project removed the existing 2 lane asphalt pavement intersection and replaced it with a 5 lane Portland cement concrete pavement intersection. Existing irrigation and drainage systems were upgraded, and telephone and gas lines relocated.
All existing pavements were taken to the local crushing yard to be recycled. Combined with locally mined aggregates, this greatly reduced the hauling normally required for this type of reconstruction.
